This article explains how to configure Google as an Identity Provider (IdP) ready to work with Canvas.
Google Chrome Canvas User Guide – Learn To Draw
The role of the IdP is to identify the user based on the identity data. The IdP usually provides a login screen interface and displays information about the authenticated user to service providers after successful authentication.
Framer Learn: How To Debug Canvas Performance
When data about an authenticated user is returned to Canvas, the user whose login_id matches the incoming data is searched.
About SP or IdP. This metadata is always delivered in XML format. Metadata for your Canvas experience can be found at http://.instructure.com/saml2 (replace with the first part of your Canvas domain).
If the user opts out of the service, other IDPs may subsequently log the user out of other services that the user is authorized to use.
Google is supportive, but sometimes there may be problems, such as preventing a successful exit. Users are signed out of Canvas, but not necessarily signed out of Google.
Canvas Essentials: Creating And Maintaining Course Templates
An SP is usually a website that provides end users with information, tools, reports, etc. Canvas provides a learning environment for teachers, students and system administrators and thus the service provider.
Note: The SP cannot support IdP unless the SP knows. Accordingly, the IDP does not send claims to an identified SP.
This happens when the user does not want to log in to another service, because information about the authorized user is transferred to the service.
Note: To complete the steps in this guide, you must be using the Canvas design environment. Testing Google’s SAML authentication does not work in the test or beta version.

You can lock yourself out of the Canvas while creating proofs. If this happens, you can log into Canvas using local authentication. Just go to /login/canvas. For example: http://.instructure.com/login/canvas (this forces Canvas to display the local login page instead of leading to the SAML login page).
You are in both the Google Apps admin console and Canvas, so all sites are open in separate tabs.
1. In Canvas, select Google SAML authentication by going to the Authentication tab on the left and select SAML (not “Google”) from the drop-down menu on the right.
9. You have added the SAML application to Google, now you are enabling the application for your users:

Note: Google’s SAML configuration does not need to be in place in the first place. You only need to use the search URL when more than one authentication method is possible.
3. It returns to the Canvas and if everything is configured correctly, the user login is successful!

We reported last week that Google was developing a way to draw PDF files in Chrome using a library called Ink. Now another interesting web app called Chrome Canvas has appeared which also uses ink, giving us a taste of how fast it is to draw in Chrome.
Security Certificate Update Error
Chrome Canvas was first available with Chrome Unboxed as it was included as an app in the latest Chrome OS dev builds. However, unlike the PDF drawing feature discussed last week, Chrome Canvas is open to everyone as a web app.
In fact, although it hosts Chrome Canvas at what appears to be a Chrome-specific URL “canvas.apps.chrome”, it should work in any browser that supports WebAssembly, including Firefox. Chrome Canvas is also a progressive web app, meaning you can “port” it to your phone using the Chrome for Android app.
However you decide to start, Chrome Canvas is a very simple app that allows you to draw on a blank canvas or import an image. From there, the app offers four drawing tools – pencil, pen, marker, and chalk – and an eraser. With these simple tools at your disposal, the world of technology is truly your oyster.
After you draw, they are automatically saved in the app, linked to your Google Account, and can even be exported as a PNG image.

One of the first things you’ll probably notice is how fast Chrome Canvas feels. I was able to draw lines quickly with little or no effort. This is, of course, thanks to Google’s Ink library built with WebAssembly, which brings native application performance closer to the web. (Web developers may also be interested to know that Chrome Canvas participates in Chrome’s WebAssembly threading implementation.)
Chrome Canvas is now available in major browsers and should be coming to Chrome OS soon.
If this is the speed we can expect from the upcoming PDF drawing feature, it will certainly be a pleasure to use. Moreover, if this is just a small taste of the possibilities of WebAssembly, the future of the web platform.

Kyle is a writer and researcher with a strong interest in Google products, Fuchsia, and Stadia. If you want to draw in Chrome on your Windows, macOS, or Chrome desktop or laptop, these apps are worth a try.
When people talk about drawing tools, they usually mean things like pens, pencils, markers, chalk, or more recently, boards and nails. This is appropriate because people have been using these tools for drawing for years.
But the Chrome browser can also serve as a powerful browser when used with a well-chosen web browser. All of the apps below let you use a mouse or touchpad to draw in Chrome on your computer. If your system has a touch screen, these applications also accept fingerprints or pen marks. With these tools, you can draw patterns, capture ideas, or model your thinking—all in a desktop web browser.
Google and many developers offer drawing tools that run in the browser. Google makes at least five drawing apps, although no Google Drawings app includes a full set of drawing tools. Some browser-based apps below are listed by ease of use, power, and price. (The two applications at the bottom of the article are both full-featured vector graphics designs.)
Comparing And Contrasting Google’s Actual Drawing Apps
For more information about Google’s drawing apps, see Tom Mullaney’s article Compare and contrast Google’s original drawing apps.
Google offers at least five drawing apps: Chrome Canvas, Google Drawings, Google Keep, Jamboard, and AutoDraw.
Limnu is the best and simplest drawing application that works in the browser. It offers a limited number of colors, sizes, pens and pen sizes among other things. The app supports both private and shared whiteboards and also includes video conferencing features.
You can order the Limnu Pro plan for $5 per month (or $50 per year) or the Limnu Team plan for $8 per person per month (or $80 per person per year). You can find more information about Limnu’s prices here.
Access Hidden Features In Google Chrome
Sketchpad supports many pen types, shapes, text and clip art. Thanks to the support of layers, applications allow you to hide, repeat or delete any design in addition to moving the layer forward or backward. Even better, Sketchpad is free to use online, though you can buy a desktop version of the app ($4.95) that lets you save files offline.
Boxy SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) provides a powerful vector design application. As the name suggests, vector graphics are scalable, so the size of the images you create can be scaled up or down without losing resolution. The toolkit includes a long list of drawings, notes, object and shape creation and tools to use.
You can purchase the app for a one-time fee of $9.99, on Windows or macOS ($9 per month), or on a Chrome device with access to the Chrome Web Store.
Boxy SVG offers a powerful vector design application that is available as a subscription (on Chrome on your computer) or as a purchase from the Chrome Web Store (on Chrome OS).

Now offered by Corel Corporation, Gravit Design (Free) and Gravit Design PRO ($49 per year) both offer professional vector editing capabilities. The paid version improves the use of fonts, adds import and export options and adds many other image editing options. The update adds cloud storage, which provides access to the version history of the project.
Gravit Design has a free version that anyone can use and a paid version that offers professional vector graphics creation tools.
