The latest addition to Amazon’s $100 annual Prime subscription is a music streaming service called Prime Music. However, with the recently updated Amazon Music app (iOS|Android), you can listen to nearly 1 million songs for free on Amazon’s website, computer, or smartphone.
Run The Airwaves With Amp, The Live Radio App From Amazon
The app’s design makes it difficult to manage your library on the go, and its music catalog doesn’t include songs or artists from any of his three major record labels.
You can’t imagine doing without a music subscription, but Amazon wants you to take advantage of your Prime subscription if you have one. This includes his free two-day shipping on thousands of items, video streaming of movies and TV shows, and a Kindle lending library.
Unfortunately, as you’ll see in this review, Amazon Music’s poor app and limited music selection don’t really compete with Spotify, Beats Music, or Rdio. There’s also no radio feature (found on both Spotify and Rdio) where the app creates music stations and selects songs based on song or artist. Although I’m a Prime customer, I pay about $10 a month for another streaming service that gives me all the music I want and improves my overall experience.
You can use Amazon Music Prime without a membership, but you won’t have access to free music within the app. If you’re already a Prime member, sign in to your account the first time you open the app.
How To Play Amazon Music On Any Device
The Amazon Music app has been around for a few years, but it was updated in June 2014 to add Prime Music. The Android app I’m reviewing this time has a simple and dark design, but it’s far from simple. There is a menu bar on the left that allows you to navigate to different parts of the application. This menu bar is divided into four sections from top to bottom: Prime, Library, and Store. The two sections you’ll probably use the most are Prime and Library, where you can find and listen to free music.
You can browse the music that comes with your Prime subscription in the Prime section. There’s a section for playlists (more on that later) and a section to browse all available Prime music, grouped by tracks and albums. The Prime section is a little more complicated. By default, it opens a list of popular songs that is a mix of new and old songs that you are currently listening to. Then click on the album list and scroll through the table of album covers. Click on an album to see the complete track list and add it to your library.
Browsing the Prime section is not very intuitive, so we recommend using the search in the top right corner. Search for any artist, song, or playlist from the entire Amazon Music catalog, including free and paid music. You can filter results only on Prime music. This is useful if you want to find music that you don’t need to buy.
Prime Music has a library of over 1 million songs from two of the three major record labels, Warner Music Group and Sony Music, all ad-free. From these two record companies, you can listen to music by Paramore, Beyoncé, Aerosmith, Daft Punk, Prince, One Direction, The Black Keys, Jimi Hendrix, and many more artists for free. However, Prime Music does not include music from Spotify and Rdio-owned Universal Music Group, which represents Kanye West, U2, Lady Gaga, OneRepublic, Bon Jovi, Madonna, and Katy Perry. . This means you have to buy songs and albums to listen to their music. You can’t play for free. Luckily, you can buy digital music from the Amazon Music app store.
Amazon Music: Free Streaming Music
The great thing about Amazon Music is that when you purchase digital music (MP3) from Amazon, those songs and albums automatically appear in the app. While testing the app, I came across a digital album that came with a CD I bought years ago.
As you browse music in the Prime music catalog, you can sample songs by playing 30-second snippets. To listen to the entire track or play the entire album, you need to press the “Add” button to save it to your music library. Once you’ve done this, you can browse your library by song, artist, album, or genre from the sidebar. It’s a little frustrating that unlike other music subscription services, when you search for music and find a song you like, you can’t start playing it right away.
If you don’t want to search for music on your phone’s tiny screen, you can discover new music, manage your library, and create playlists from the Amazon website and desktop apps for Mac and Windows. Changes you make here will appear in the app, but may take a few minutes to update. You can also use the desktop app to load your personal library of music not purchased from Amazon and play those songs from the app.
Like other popular streaming services, Amazon Music has a catalog of playlists curated by Amazon Music Editors to help you find music that fits your tastes and mood. There are hundreds of playlists built around genres, moods, and artists. “Journey hits” and “feel-good pop” are just a few examples. You can sample entire playlists that play 30-second snippets of each song to get a feel for the music.
Amazon Prime Music Launches Podcasts In India
Interestingly, the service does not have a playlist of the most popular songs or the songs that topped the charts. There are also no user-created shared playlists. You can create your own playlists in your library, but you can’t share them with other users in the Amazon Music community.
