Drag a Google Maps pin from your computer or mobile app to navigate to a specific location or save it. Dave Johnson/Business Insider
Google Maps has made navigation so easy that it’s become an essential tool for getting around town (and is hilariously explored in pop culture).
Finding almost any address is as easy as typing it into the search box, but sometimes that doesn’t work.

If the location you’re trying to reach doesn’t have an address or the address is incorrect, you may want to mark the pin on the map instead. Also, if you don’t know the exact address, you might want to pin it to the general area.
The process for dropping a pin in the Google Maps mobile app is the same regardless of which phone you’re using.
2. Find the place on the map where you want to pin and zoom in far enough to see it clearly.
3. Touch and hold where you want to drop the pin until you see the pin under your finger.

Now you can use the battery. For example, you can tap Directions to get directions from your current location to the marked place.
You can save this pin for later if you want. To do this, tap “Label” in the pin’s oval settings and give it a name. Then you can always find it in My Places. (Note that the Android and iPhone versions of Google Maps work slightly differently. Both apps let you save and tag abandoned pins, but to see the Tag button on Android, tap the box information at the bottom of the screen to see all your options. )

3. Click where you want to drop the pin. You’ll see a small gray pin and an information box appear at the bottom of the screen.
Now it’s time to use the battery. When you click the blue navigation icon in the info box, Google Maps will open the navigation page. You can enter your starting point and get driving directions. Additionally, you can click elsewhere in the information box to display a pane with more information about the selected location. Here, you can click the Save icon to add the location to My Places so you can quickly navigate to it in the future.
Remember that you can only drop one pin at a time on Google Maps; When you tap or tap a second time, the new pin replaces the old pin. And to save pins to your places, you must sign in to your Google account.

How To Name A Dropped Pin?
Take a look: I cut Google out of my life for two weeks, but the alternatives demonstrate why Google is so much better. It’s easy to tell a friend where to meet you if you’re in a location with a physical address. But what if you’re trying to find each other in a huge park? Or are you trying to show them the way to your most secret campsite on that unnamed dirt road?
There’s an easier way to do this than telling them to “turn left at the cow behind the big tree”: drop a pin on Google Maps.
That way, when you share that information with your friends, you’re telling them exactly where you are – not the nearest address (which can be miles away).
We’ll show you how to add (and remove) pins from Google Maps on both PC and phone.
Fix A Missing Address Or Wrong Pin Location
To drop a pin on your computer: Step 1: Open your favorite browser and go to Google Maps.
Enter a more specific location in the “Search on Google Maps” field so you can narrow your search area.
Now you come closer. But still not close enough. Barton Creek Greenbelt in Austin is a pretty big place. So let’s move in a little bit.
Once you’ve moved in, select the location you want to push. Right-click and select “Directions here” from the drop-down menu that appears.

Now you just need to tell your friends where to go – so you’ll want to share those directions.
Click the hamburger menu (three horizontal bars) in the upper left corner and select “Share or insert tag” from the long drop-down menu.
You have the option to share the link via social networks, or if you want to keep it private, copy the link and send it directly to your friends:
